FAQs

What is Semaglutide Peptide Therapy?

  • Semaglutide (also known as Ozempic or Wegovy) is a peptide: a small chain of protein building blocks called amino acids that sends signals in your body that help with blood sugar regulation, insulin production and sensitivity, satiety/sensations of fullness, and fat loss.

How does Semaglutide Peptide Therapy help with weight and fat loss?

  • This peptide increases satiety signaling, helping you feel full more quickly. It also significantly reduces cravings for sugar, high carbohydrate foods, and hyper -palatable foods such as snack foods and fast foods. It helps regulate insulin, a hormone that balances blood sugar and is involved in the regulation of fat loss.

Why Semaglutide Peptide Therapy?

  • Semaglutide (Ozempic/Wegovy) regulates appetite and blood sugar to allow you to be able to feel your natural satiety signals. The sensation you get of being full. Patients report that they experience sensations of fullness again, sometimes for the first time in years. This naturally allows them to eat a healthy amount and then stop eating – and not think about food again until the next meal. It reduces cravings that lead to less-healthy foods choices, including high sugar foods, snack foods, and fast foods — without relying on deliberate restriction or willpower. Clients return to wanting healthier foods, including vegetables, fruits, whole grains, healthy fats and protein, sometimes for the first time in decades.

    • Have gained weight in menopause or peri-menopause and cannot seem to lose it
    • Who have Pre-diabetes or Type II Diabetes
    • Cannot lose weight due to PCOS

Semaglutide Peptide (Ozempic/Wegovy (R)) Weight Loss Therapy is a powerful weight loss tool for those with a history of unsuccessful weight-loss attempts, emotional eating, low satiety, elevated food cravings, peri- or post-menopausal weight gain, and elevated blood sugar. It works with the body to restore satiation, reduce cravings, stop emotional eating, and unlock fat loss even after decades of unsuccessful weight and fat loss attempts.

As interest in semaglutide has increased, we’ve had more and more questions about this therapy and how we use and prescribe this peptide. We hope that this additional information provides more clarity about the way we use semaglutide in our office as part of a holistic and long term approach to weight management.

What to expect during semaglutide therapy:

Semaglutide is an injectable medication that is administered 1x per WEEK. Your first injection will be administered or supervised by Dr. Storm in the office. From there you have the option to self-administer at home or come into the clinic for injections (please note that there is a $62.50 office visit charge if you opt to have Dr. Storm administer your weekly injections.)

We require initial lab work to assess your blood sugar, insulin, cholesterol levels as well as liver and kidney function tests. We will use these numbers to track how your body responds to treatment and to make sure we are keeping your body as healthy as possible while you use this medication. We’ll retest these levels every 2-4 months.

We begin with a very low dose of semaglutide to allow your body to adjust to the peptide and minimize any digestive discomfort. Still, it is likely that you will experience some digestive symptoms, the most common of which is nausea, heartburn, and fatigue. You may also experience vomiting the first or second time you dose this medication. You may also experience diarrhea or constipation.

We will monitor you closely during treatment to ensure that side effects are minimal and as comfortable as possible, as well as to monitor your dose of the medication and make sure it is exactly the right dose your body needs for reliable and consistent weight loss of 1-2 lbs per week with minimal side effects. During the early weeks of treatment we require follow up every 2-4 weeks. This is an appointment in office and incurs a visit fee of $200.

We recognize that many online clinics are offering very cheap access to semaglutide with minimal advisement or follow up, and that our model is different than what these online models are offering.

This is for several reasons.

  1. The dosing of this medication completely depends on the individual. We have some people who only need the lowest starting dose to achieve their weight loss goals. Others will need to have their medication dose increased several times during the course of treatment. We practice personalized medicine and make sure that you are on the exact right dose to minimize side effects while preserving weight loss.
  2. This medication can impact your digestive organ function. We need to monitor these systems and make sure we’re keeping your long term health front and center.
  3. We use semaglutide therapy as a tool WITH diet and lifestyle guidance to create long lasting health habits that you can rely on after you wean off of this medication. We do not consider this to be a quick fix or a bandaid therapy, and our goal is to set you up with new habits and a new understanding of hunger and satiety signaling that will allow you to preserve your weight loss long term. This requires individualized care and diet and lifestyle recommendations.

Common side effects:

Many notice that in the early weeks of using this medication they have more burping, heartburn, nausea and fatigue. These are totally normal side effects and should dissipate within 3-4 weeks.

To support optimal digestive function during semaglutide use Dr. Storm will prescribe nutritional supplements for digestive function, such as natural antacids, liver or gall bladder support, or gut lining support. In certain cases she may also recommend a second peptide called BPC-157 with your semaglutide to reduce these side effects and also give additional support to your digestive organs during the time that you are using semaglutide.

Rare Side Effects:

In rare instances this peptide has been linked to a rare type of thyroid cancer, and acute pancreatitis, which is a medical emergency. To date we have not had any patients experience these rare and more serious side effects.

Other information:

We use a reputable US based compounding pharmacy to supply semaglutide. Your prescription is compounded specifically for you and is not allowed to be administered to any other person. Having this medication compounded does not impact the supply for patients who are using this medication through their insurance. We are able to compound this medication because it is on a national shortage. There is a chance that in the future this may change and that we will not have access to this medication. We will keep you updated and let you know if the access to this compound changes.

“An accident when I was a teenager left me with a broken collarbone that didn’t heal right and eventually had to be surgically repaired. Even though the surgery went well, my shoulder and scar area have continued to be very painful for over a decade. I’m constantly rolling my shoulders and rubbing the area trying to find relief. In a single session, Dr. Storm used trigger point therapy to release my shoulder muscle and prolotherapy to release my scar. The whole area immediately felt SO much better and has stayed feeling pain-free for over a week.”
